Rapper, Rouge, took the award for Best Female Artist at the South African Hip Hop Awards held last night at the Gold Reef City, Lyric Theatre. This was in recognition of her critically acclaimed debut album “The New Era Sessions” which was released in September this year.
“I am grateful to have won the Best Female category at an award ceremony created to celebrate the best hip hop entertainers in the country. I am privileged to have had the opportunity to share my music with so many people this year and I want to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone who voted for me, without you this would have not been possible,” commented Rouge.
Rouge was nominated alongside the talented Patty Monroe, Nelz, Lee STK & MegMafia, and was also nominated in the Best Freshman of the Year category alongside the likes of Shane Eagle, Bigstar, J Molly and Zoocci Coke Dope. The New Era Sessions album debuted at number two on iTunes on the day of its release and was accompanied by a short film of the same title – this was a first in SA Hip Hop.
