It is no secret that the South African hip-hop group 985 has not had it easy since they burst into the South African music scene with their debut album “The Landline Mixtape” in 2006. The album was groundbreaking due to the fact that they released it independently and managed to sell enough copies on their own to get the interest of Gallo Records which eventually gave them a deal to release the album nationally.
However, soon after the release, the group went from five members to three members and then eventually ended up with only two members after their second album release “Re-Dial 985” in 2010. This led to them not releasing any new material, until now.
The “utlwa”, “magimbana” and “shapa” hit-makers now consists of the 3 founding members (Gimboss, Juba and Drew) and they will be back with a new album “Missed Calls” dropping later on this year. In the meantime, they will be dropping the first single “Sotra”, which is geared for the streets this June 2018. The single will be followed up by another single in July titled “Codesa” to cement their deserved place back in the industry!
