Event Review: Everything You Need to Know About the SA Classic

The SA Classic, held on Saturday 02 March at the Turffontien Race Course was the second leg of the SA Triple Crown. Esteemed guests included Sheikh Hamdan, the Crown Prince of Dubai, whose three-year-old racehorse, Hawwaam smashed his rivals in the 2019 renewal of the Grade 1 SA Classic over 1800m.

Victoria Gin also showcased all of their best products to media and public, who enjoyed the offering in the racing. Hawwaam powered home 5.75-lengths clear of stablemate Barahin, with National Park a further 1,50-lengths back.

Wilgerbosdrift enjoyed their afternoon as sponsors of the Fillies version, the SA Fillies Classic, won emphatically by the top class Return Flight. It will be very interesting to see what route she takes next, we all hoping she takes crack at the SA Oaks on Derby Day.
