Multi Award-winning actress, Didintle Khunou has been lead-cast in the new Rocky Horror Show seen at Cape Town’s Artscape in December and from 17 January at The Teatro in Montecasino, Johannesburg. Khunou takes in the role of ‘Janet Weiss’ in Richard O’Brien’s world-favourite blockbuster rock ‘n’ roll musical. The actress is the first black South African to be cast as Janet in this historical smash-hit show.
“The Rocky Horror Show tells the story of Brad and his fiancée Janet, two squeaky clean college kids who meet Dr Frank ’n ‘Furter by chance when their car breaks down outside his house whilst on their way to visit their favourite college professor. It’s an adventure they’ll never forget, with fun, frolics, frocks and frivolity, bursting with timeless songs and outrageous outfits.”
The actress is best known for her portrayal of one of the most coveted roles in musical theatre, Celie, in the Grammy, Tony and Naledi award-winning musical, The Color Purple Musical directed by award-winning director Janice Honeyman at the Joburg Theatre. Didintle has been honoured with the Naledi and BroadwayWorld South Africa Awards for ‘Best Lead Actress In a Musical – Female’ for her performance as Celie.
