DJ Lag Collaborates with Lady Du on Thrilling First Single, Lucifer, Off His Debut Solo Album

DJ Lag launches his debut album with a thrilling first single that sees him collaborate with Lady Du. Titled “Lucifer”, the single is the first of three ahead of the November 5th release of Meeting with the King – undoubtedly one of the most anticipated albums of 2021.

“Lucifer” brings together the King of Gqom and the songwriter behind some of Amapiano’s biggest hits on a track that materialises DJ Lag’s vision of creating Gqom 2.0 through finding a deep connection with Amapiano, Afro House and Afro Tech. The single is accompanied by a new video that enhances the track’s slow build, unforgettable vocals, and wondrously hypnotic flow.

“This song speaks about people coming into a cleaner spirit and not allowing the things of the world to consume them,” says Lady Du who was recently a guest judge on Idols and is a key contributor to Mr JazziQ’s “Woza”, the video for which reached one million streams (and counting) in 10 days.

“When we recorded the song, there were so many things happening around us and Lag and I thought we should take that and put it in a song and teach people to pray. It doesn’t directly say pray but it says ‘let’s be positive, let’s be on one bus and have a positive mind’.”

The second single will be released on October 1st. Titled “Raptor” it again sees DJ Lag breaking borders through a collaboration with Canadian-American electronic music producer and DJ, Sinjin Hawke. This will be followed by a third single – “Destiny” – that brings it back home through a powerful collaboration with singer songwriter, Amanda Black. The release date for “Destiny” is October 15th.

The global anticipation for the release of Meeting with the King has been stoked by DJ Lag’s first DJ Mag cover and a multi-layered feature that traces his journey from its early days, the battles he’s fought to earn his position as a “pioneer of the world-conquering South African dance music genre, gqom” and his deep-seated and ever-expanding creativity.

Mid-October sees DJ Lag once again take to the world stage. He’s part of the line-up for the Boiler Room Festival 20201, taking place in London on 15 October, and has a raft of shows in Europe including Atlantique Sunday Society (France) and Planet Ears Festival (Germany
