Style Diary: Mpho from the Fitted Muse

I am Mpho Ntlatleng – a Management Student at the University of Johannesburg and a personal style and beauty blogger for Fitted Muse. My blog, Fitted Muse is a platform that I use to share my personal style along with some fashion tips, I also share some of my favourite beauty products and most trusted beauty tips.

My style is simple, clean, comfortable and almost edgy and this how my style for a typical week would look like:

Monday

My Mondays are very easy and relaxed, in fact I love Mondays because they’re often an extension to my Sunday. I am usually running errands or preparing for the rest of the week, so you will find me in something comfortable but not too causal.

A pair of blue jeans and a buttoned down crisp white shirt always does the trick for me – whether I pair it with heels or flats, this classic combination is perfect for my easy Mondays.

Tuesday

I am obsessed with ankle boots, whether they are flat or heeled, suede or leather, a good pair of ankle boots will last you for years and they will become your greatest companion. I can wear my ankle boots all year long but for a typical autumn/winter day, I would pair them with a knit and jeans or pants. For this look, I took my leather ankle boots and paired them with a grey high ribbed neck poncho and faux leather pants, a very simple look with a bit of edge.

Tip: When buying the perfect ankle boot remember that the narrower on the foot, the slimmer on the leg.

Wednesday

Midweek I am in my denim and white tank top or t-shirt uniform. I am always in jeans, from boyfriend jeans to skinny jeans, my typical outfit will always include a pair of blue jeans.

I am looking very casual in my jeans and tank top combination, paired with a sleeveless soft trench and heels, a very casual look that I can switch up any time of the day. Early in the morning, I’m wearing this look with a pair of ankle boots and a pair of heels later – a denim and white T ensemble allows versatility.

Thursday

Thursdays are one of my longest days, so comfort is definitely key. I always go for something loose fitting and dark in colour, I picked something loose fitting because of comfort and something dark because it camouflages any stains that might occur during the long day.

I would go for a head-to-toe black outfit, where I dress down a formal pair of pants with an oversized T and sneakers. This sports-luxe look offers functionality and comfortability, which I love.

Friday

Borrowing items from the boys is one thing us ladies love to do, we love to mix and match our feminine items with masculine pieces. Half of this outfit is borrowed from the men’s section, both the t-shirt and trench coat are from that section. The trench coat is my favourite part of this outfit – a grey, well-structured coat that I can simply throw over my shoulders or even layer. I paired my trench coat and t-shirt with black joggers and to break the masculinity, I wore black court heels.

Borrowing from the boys tip: you don’t have to go for the conventional item when borrowing from them. Try items like a grandpa cardigan or a trench coat, so you can layer it in winter and a fun, graphic t-shirt for summer.
