5 Tracks You Need In Your Life This Week

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? For me, I go on social media (Twitter first, then IG, then Facebook) to check the trending topics for the day / or some that may have been trending overnight. And today, following the same morning ritual, I noticed a lot of people talking about Solange and her remarkable performance on SNL. This then inspired this week’s track-list, whereby I take a look at some of the best live performances from our fave musicians.

1. Solange – Cranes In The Sky

I tried finding the video of the performance on YouTube, but to my dismay, most of the videos on the channel are either blocked for SA users and some are recordings from people who were watching on their TV screens, shitty quality. Thanks to the lovely lady, Abongwe, whom we did a Style Diary feature with, a couple of weeks ago. She shared the link to the lovely performance, check it out below:

2. Rihanna – Love On The Brain

Whenever I see people on social media talk shit about Ririh’s vocal capabilities and when they say shit like “she can’t sing” I respond with a “bitch! Sit your ass down cos you don’t know shit” (but only in my head LOL).

3. Simphiwe Dana ft Mthwakazi – iNkwenkwezi

This is one of my all-time favourite live performances and I think I’ve probably watched it like 25 000 times. It takes me to this profound spiritual dimension that I hardly ever experience. But ke, ngu Simphiwe Dana lo, my spiritual goddess. Love her.

4. Lianne LaHavas – Unstoppable

I’m a big fan of NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series and this performance below by my other favourite female artist, Lianne LaHavas is another video that I’ve probable played over 25 000 times (not sure why I keep going with this 25 000 number, hope it means there’s a large sum of money coming my way LOL)

5. Beyonce ft Kendrick Lamar – Freedom

I know you didn’t think I’d live the ‘Queen of live performances’ out from this list… that would be a sin! Sorry for the shitty quality video.
