Rapper Rouge, Short film “New Era Sessions” was nominated in the Best Micro Budget Film Category: TV Non-Fiction at the 12th Annual South African Film & Television Awards (SAFTAs) – A first for any rapper in South Africa. Following the release of her much-anticipated debut Album “New Era Sessions” Rouge surprised fans with the release of a short film of the same name.
The film which features entertainment heavyweights, Atandwa & Fikile Kani, the inimitable Denise Zimba and a debut appearance from Cassius Davids, depicts the story of a young woman on her journey of self-discovery. The production is an immersion into her experiences as she deals with the highs and lows of falling in love, the delight of true friendship and the bitterness of betrayal.
“I wanted to give listeners and viewers something different, something memorable and also perhaps, an insight into what motivates me, what drives my narrative and my music. I really hope my fans enjoy it and it connects them to my message and through that, me to them. An artist is defined by her fans, and I am grateful for – and blessed by – their love and support,” said Rouge.
