Rising afropop teen sensation Zee Nxumalo has finally released her debut project titled “KwaNxumalo EP” following the successful release of the lead single “Hamba”. The 19-year-old singer seems to be a good storyteller as she speaks about the EP as a quick glimpse into some recurring themes of life such as heartbreak, hard work, work ethic and growing up. She is quoted explaining the title of the EP:
“I chose the title “KwaNxumalo” because it takes me back home and reminds me of how I was raised, my roots and experiences are important to share because they influence my music and how I see the world. For instance, the first song on the EP is named “eKhoneni” because the lyrics speak to hard work, work ethic and the encouragement I got from my mother and that encouragement keeps me fueled and focused.”

This theme is seen throughout the EP as Zee shares her experiences and useful nuggets of wisdom about life and being a carefree teen trying to make it in Johannesburg. Multi SAMA nominated singer Azana, also makes an appearance as a featured artist on the song named “Pholile”. Several of the songs on the EP are produced by Profound who recently caught the public’s eye thanks to his production of Khuli Chana‘s latest single, “Take Care.”
Zee hopes that “KwaNxumalo” becomes a viral hit just like her previous work with Zandimaz on the song “Maphupho” which is a success on the popular social media app TikTok, where she recently hit 250K followers and gained the attention of local big music names such as Cassper Nyovest, Sun El Musician and Mlindo The Vocalist.
Since its release on Friday, Zee has been featured on several major Apple Music playlists. This past weekend she premiered “Pholile” with DJ Sabby on Metro FM and celebrated the project’s release with an eye-catching performance at MOLOKO Pretoria on Saturday night in front of a star-studded audience that included the likes of Anatii, Pearl Thusi and Sir Trill.
