Tsa Badimo is an abstract short film that was filmed in Mpumalanga just as the lockdown was lifted in South Africa. It is a visual representation of a dream where there is no difference between reality in our world and the spiritual realm.

Makere explains the film: “Mantaole (his late mother) wakes up from a dream which is in true essence reality, it is just an alternative universe. She goes in search of herself and as she navigates her path Sisi finds her power which she shares with those around her. She is on a journey to find her true self while being guided by the universe. When Sisi finds her true self, she makes those around her realise their true potential and gifts. Mantaole is a sleeping giant who has woken up from her slumber.”

The title of the film derives from the musical band Black Motion’s album called Ya Badimo, the “music of the mountain” and the visual is also inspired greatly by their presence through music.

Tsa Badimo is about his mom who passed away in 1991 and she came in his dream during the lockdown, the film is about that dream. It is about a journey of healing and finding your true self.
