Honest, intimate and emotionally fearless, Some Strings Attached follows Rowlene as she untangles herself from the remains of a long-term relationship and learns to make room for the woman emerging on the other side. Across ten tracks, she moves through disconnection, confrontation, grief, acceptance and, ultimately, freedom.

The title captures the emotional tension at the heart of the project: the invisible threads that continue to connect us to people, memories and former versions of ourselves, even after a relationship has ended. “This album is about accepting that some endings don’t happen cleanly,” says Rowlene. “There are always memories, habits and emotions that stay attached. I had to stop fighting those strings and understand what they were teaching me. This project is me choosing myself, making room for something new and taking my power back.”

Blending contemporary R&B, soul and African influences, Some Strings Attached places Rowlene’s unmistakable voice and vulnerable songwriting at its centre. The production moves between atmospheric intimacy and bold, emotionally charged moments, mirroring the unpredictable process of healing. The album includes the previously released singles “Last Seen” and “Hurts 2b Reminded.” “Last Seen” introduced the era through a striking meditation on closure, while “Hurts 2b Reminded” explored the way one memory can reopen a wound you believed had already healed.

The album’s focus track, “More Room,” featuring Jesse Clegg, marks a turning point in the story. Created after Rowlene’s Spotify Wrapped celebration—and during the emotional aftermath of a breakup—the song captures the uncomfortable but necessary moment when loss begins to create space for growth. Rather than presenting healing as a straight line, Some Strings Attached allows every emotion to exist: anger, longing, confusion, regret, tenderness and relief. Its recurring red-string imagery represents both attachment and positive current—transforming what once held Rowlene back into the
energy that moves her forward.

Rowlene will bring the album to life at the official Some Strings Attached album launch at Hard Rock Cafe Sandton on 22 August 2026, followed by a Cape Town and Durban celebration in September. The live experience will expand the album’s red-string world through music, storytelling, fashion and
immersive visual elements.
