Twitter announced on Tuesday, 19 July 2016 that they have created an online application process for Twitter accounts to receive verified status. The (in)famous blue tick. Verified accounts on Twitter allow people to identify key individuals and organisations on Twitter as authentic, and are denoted by a blue badge icon.
Twitter announced the news in a press release earlier this week, listing the three most followed celebrity accounts on Twitter, and Katy Perry tops the list with 90 million followers. Number two on the list is Justin Bieber, with 83.3 million followed by Taylor Swift with 79 million.
