Choco Deluxe and White Star Celebrate Female DJs

In a bid to celebrate and empower fellow female DJs, Queen Choco, in association with White Star Super Maize Meal, hosted the inaugural Choco Deluxe event this past weekend at Dorkay House in Johannesburg. A strong believer in women empowerment and collaboration, Queen Choco, the alter ego of South African jazz wonder Wanda Baloyi, believes that in order to move things forward in the entertainment industry, women need to unite, inspire and create platforms to empower other upcoming artists.

The event line-up included well known female DJs; Lerato Kganyago, DJ Lamiez and Queen Choco herself, as well as a selection of other talented up and coming female DJs. The star-studded guest list included passionate music lovers and celebrities such as Umhlobo Wenene FM’s KCI August and actors Khulu Skenjana and Mona Monyane.

To further extend their contribution to and support of young women, a portion of the proceeds from the event and donations by guests will go towards providing sanitary pads for grade 12 learners at underprivileged high schools around Johannesburg.

Choco Deluxe is about making sure we leave no one behind. In this male-dominated industry, we need to work together to make our mark and support fellow up and coming female DJs. The aim of the event is to create opportunities for female DJs to showcase their skills and talent and engage with other women in the field,” notes event creator and host, Queen Choco. “This is a space for us to engage and celebrate each other, which is so important for the future of the industry at large,” she added.
