Queen Sono Team Brings New Teen Espionage Series “Classified” to African Audiences on Netflix  30 November

 The creative minds behind the acclaimed series “Queen Sono” present a gripping new teen espionage drama, “Classified.” The eight-episode series is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix in Africa on November 30th, promising audiences a captivating exploration of the world of the 1% and the enticing international realm of espionage and subterfuge. 

“Classified” follows the riveting journey of 15-year-old Ella Gardner, portrayed by the talented Imani Pullum (known for her roles in “Emancipation” and “The Orville”). Ella, a student at a public school in Oakland, California, finds herself at the center of a violent protest, leading to her arrest and the looming threat of serious jail time. In a twist of fate, Ella manages to avoid incarceration but must leave her familiar surroundings in California to complete her secondary education with her family in Johannesburg. As she adjusts to this new reality, Ella’s world is turned upside down, presenting a compelling narrative of self-discovery and intrigue.

“Classified” is produced by Diprente, the Johannesburg-based production company behind the success of “Queen Sono,” in collaboration with the renowned US company Skybound Entertainment, recognized for global hits such as “Invincible” and “The Walking Dead” franchise. Kagiso Lediga, the creator and showrunner, shares directing duties with Tebogo Malope, who recently helmed the award-winning documentary ‘Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story’ and Karabo Lediga, both of whom contributed to the success of “Queen Sono.” Karabo Lediga, Camilo Saloojee, Meja Shoba, Christopher Steenkamp, and Nomawonga Khumalo round out the writing team. 

Kagiso Lediga, the visionary creator, and showrunner, expressed his enthusiasm for bringing “Classified” to life, stating, “This project allowed us to explore the complex world of espionage through the eyes of a teenage protagonist, offering a fresh perspective on the genre. Imani Pullum, the actress behind the protagonist Ella Gardner, shared her shooting experience and insights into her character, expressing the transformative nature of the series. “Portraying Ella was a unique and challenging experience that allowed me to delve into a character undergoing a profound transformation. The series is a rollercoaster of emotions, and I believe viewers will be captivated by the suspense and drama that ‘Classified’ has to offer.”  

The series features an exciting new crop of talented young actors alongside notable international and local veterans such as Christine Horn (Snowfall, BMF), Sule Rimi (Andor, Manhunt) Abena Ayivor (Black Earth Rising, A United Kingdom) and Nat Ramabulana (Fatal Seduction, Warrior)

The project is Executive Produced by Kagiso Lediga, Diprente’s Tamsin Andersson, Skybound’s Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Rick Jacobs, and Sean and Bryan Furst. Spycraft Entertainment, a global production company run by former senior intelligence officers, co-produces and consults on the series. Sony Pictures Television is handling international distribution outside of the U.S. and Africa.
